There are too many "out of character" characters and situations in this book. The most implausible in my mind is Miss Heron, a woman who had headed up an unwed mothers' home since 1939. This woman who has seen countless babies born and given to grateful adoptive parents, actually says: "It's emotionally devastating." (giving a child up for adoption) "Frankly, I favor abortion." UNREAL!
