1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Another good Poe short story, October 11, 2002 Reviewer: J R Zullo from S“o Paulo, Brazil "The cask of Amontillado" is another fast-paced short story by the master of nineteenth-century writer. As happens with many of his other stories, the main themes in "Amontillado" are revenge and the torture ob burying someone alive. The main characters uses his knowledge of famous-labeled wines to lure an enemy, who also is a wine-devoted man, into a fantastic and terrific trap. The short stories written by Poe leave the reader with ambiguous feelings: being short, they are fast to read, and you get to know the ending very quickly, in an almost hysterical way; but also, you get the feeling that everything could be more well developed (characters, plot, etc). Anyway, thaat was how Poe liked to write his tales, and they are very good just the way they are. Grade 9.0/10
